Ok, here i am finally doing what i was keeping in mind for some time - writing about The Conceal. The Conceal is a natural continuation of Flood Peak expanded to become a five-piece, so in case you missed it, it's time to fill the gap.



Endless River | Stunted Prayer contains four reworked songs out of five from Filling Flasks and.. let's count.. six new ones. The reworked versions sound slower, with more stress on heaviness and anguish, but not without rocking impression. New songs are also not just to fill in the space, they are at least as good, if not better as the previously heard. From the very Final Song which is actually the first one, and up to The Waiting these sounds control your feelings and consciousness. And even if you listen to any random song, it will be repeated in your mind again and again. That's what i like.



There is also a great digital layout with lyrics and art included and some beautiful band videos. The visual aspect of The Conceal work is another thing to be pleased with. It perfectly reflects the essence of the project. Looks like these guys founded something outstanding. Dark and heavy shit-rock band with cool past, splendid present and bright future. And whatever you call it, that is still what it is.

BØREDØM - World Bores To Death - 2011

Welcome the most doomed and bored guys in Austria. Here they are. And their latest release for now. Though there are these Bore- words everywhere i can't imagine myself calling this album boring. Not even for a single little moment. Doomed? Yes. Not as a genre but in it's hopeless, desperation, nihilistic rage and darkness-all-around feel. I remember listening to their previous records ( which are Demo and two splits ), but frankly speaking, those seemed just like many others to me, nothing special could i hear. But this one.. it's wonderful. The sound became more aggressive, heavier, still keeping those cool melodies and more "metallic" i'd say.  "Awesome dark rockin` crust" as Pirsic called it, hah. Seriously, people, if you're reading this, don't sleep on this record! Huge thanks and best wishes to the band.

BitterChupChupWeLose - S-t 10 - 2011

A French band.. this already makes me think good of it. BitterChupChupWeLose. Can't even imagine what does the name means if it actually makes any sense but their music does. Bass-driven songs with stonery guitars and there's also a violin and a trumpet in one song, the rhythms are catchy which makes the songs stuck in your head. From the very first hymn "White Flower" it's getting clear they know how to rock. Though my favorite one is "Hypnotic Power Of Rocks". The first record is offered at bandcamp as well and worth a listen too. Thanks Sébastien and good luck in your future efforts.

Depths - Downriver EP - 2011
 

We are a young Band from Bielefeld, Germany, formed in late 2009. We combine several influences of different music genres, such as hardcore, metal, crust, sludge and post rock.
Depths is made up of Hannes, Leonie, Pierre and Stephan.

Not so young probably, two years is quite a long time.. but judging by this ep they've been playing together for ages. There is everything i like in modern hardcore-or-something bands. Some slower melodic parts, chaotic riffs here and there, some grinding moments, crusty sound and two voices. A great debut ( overlooking the demo ), get yourself into it. And once again i have to thank the band ( Thank you! ) for sharing their record.

Long time running band which i didn't listen to before this summer. I regret it now. They're so cool! Well, at least this album. Cause the have so many records, this is their latest and the first to me. This is some kinda rockin' metallic crust, i don't know, but it is soo catchy! Groovy riffs along with the amazing songwriting make every song stuck in your head. Shit, one of the best summer discoveries!

That's a real masterpiece. The debut record from San Hose based Flood Peak. With Mike McClatchey on guitar who was also in Apiary ( Clearing Autumn Skies before and Early Graves after ) they sound really heavy. I'd say it's like taking part in the bulldozer race where you have to slam the others while pushing gas to the floor, feeling the destructive power and enjoying the speed at the same time. Hope you got it. Record production reminds me of Lighthouse ( their album's here ) but it has more of that Motorhead feel. I didn't listen to it when being drunk but this sounds great anyways. Check the teaser below and you'll surely want to get Filling Flasks immediately.

I'm not really into all those metal things but i do like this record. Definitely a black metal one but with a blend of death metal, grindcore and even some atmospheric moments. Australians do know how to make music.

Julie Christmas - Coextinction Release 5

A couple of days ago after listening to The Bad Wife once again i checked Julie's myspace and got very excited of the news i saw: she had some more material released! Good news! That was a two song release coming on Coextinction Recordings - an online label organized by members of many bands (Unsane, Fresh Kills and Players club among others) with some  cool stuff and a lot more to come. Talking about those two songs, they both feature John LaMacchia of Candiria on guitars and are full of passionate screaming, whispering and everything you expect from Julie. So she might be a bad wife but she's definitely an outstanding singer. If you're still unfamiliar with Julie's work check the video below. It's for the "Bow" song from The Bad Wife.

We are WAKE, a grindcore band from Calgary, Canada. Formed in the summer of 2009, we have   released Surrounded By Human Filth 7" and completed a west coast US/Canada tour in March of 2010. Having been compared to such bands as Nasum and Tragedy (MRR #324), we are keen on developing our aggressive sound, combining elements of punk, death metal and hardcore music. With another 7" and a west coast tour in the works for the fall,  as well as a full length 12" out spring 2011, we like to live in a van and hope to play with your band.
